At 7:00 a.m. on Sunday October 4, 2009 participants in the sixth annual Tour de Scottsdale will begin a journey around the beautiful McDowell Mountains that they won’t soon forget.

 

This years Tour de Scottsdale includes a competitive prize purse for the CAT 1 & 2 cyclists. The non-competitive wave will start as usual under the covered bridge at DC Ranch’s Market Street. As a participant in the Tour de Scottsdale, your contributions will help raise awareness and benefit the McDowell Sonoran Conservancy, an organization committed to preserving the Sonoran desert and its mountains for the benefit of this and all future generations.

 

COURSE DESCRIPTION CAT 1 & 2 COMPETITORS (USAC License Required) Your race will begin on Thompson Peak Parkway at Desert Camp Blvd west. You will start at the Arch.

 

RECREATIONAL TOUR The Starting line once again is at the wonderful Market Street Bridge at DC Ranch. The course will wind through approximately 70 miles of rolling hills and spectacular desert views. Cyclists will follow lead vehicles for a controlled rolling start until they reach Thompson Peak Parkway 1.Thompson Peak west to 76th Street 2.76th Street north to Greyhawk Drive 3.Greyhawk Drive west to Scottsdale 4.Scottsdale north to Cave Creek 5.Cave Creek east to Pima 6.Pima south to Dynamite 7.Dynamite east to Forest 8.Forest south to McDowell Mountain 9.McDowell Mountain south Fountain Hills 10.Fountain Hills south to Saguaro 11.Saguaro south to Shea 12.Shea west to 136th street 13.136th street north to Via Linda 14.Via Linda west to Frank Lloyd Wright 15.Frank Lloyd Wright north to 100th street 16.100th street north to Thompson Peak Parkway 17.Thompson Peak Parkway north to McDowell Mountain Ranch 18.McDowell Mountain Ranch east/northeast to Bell 19.Bell west to Thompson Peak Parkway 20.Thompson Peak Parkway back to Finish 21.Finish along Thompson Peak Parkway at Desert Camp intersection Bike Support On course bike support and sag will be roaming the course throughout the event.

 

There will also be basic repair equipment at each aid station. However, to avoid possible lengthy waits for bike assistance, it is strongly recommended that each rider be self-sufficient. Aid Stations Aid stations will be located approximately every 10 miles along the course for rider support. Aid stations, although staffed by volunteers, are self service. If you need any food and/or drink you will need to stop, dismount your bike and help yourself. There will be medical support at each aid station. Course Rider Safety The course will be secured by the City of Scottsdale Police, Maricopa County Sheriffs and traffic barricading. The course is not completely closed to traffic so please ride ALERT and safely. At no time will riders be allowed in both travel lanes. Follow ALL directions from uniformed officers or be subject to disqualification and removal from the course. USA Cycling officials will monitor the CAT 1&2 group. USA Cycling Officials have the option to remove slower riders from the Competitive group.
