Another Redbull is in the books, complete with new competitors, controversial judging and weather mind fucks that will keep the conversation alive till next year. Props to the downhillers that threw down with the top freeride and DJ hucksters. This year was misssing some big names like Semenuk and McCaul, but Gee Atherton came back healthy and with a great result to show for it. Logan Binggeli of KHS, also surprised by winning the qualifier and finishing in the top 10 ahead of some more seasoned jumpers. Be sure to check out all the cool pics on BicycleWorld.TV and in all the mags in the next couple of months.
The sunrises behind the zone 2 start line at the 2010 Redbull Rampage
A different view of the winning trick a-la Cam Zink. While a monster trick it was and the single biggest trick of the event, the real question is does one big trick win a competition where all mountain riding is the focus? This event begged the question.
Gee Atherton attacking his run like a downhill run. Smooth and fast scored him enough points to take second.
Darren Berrecloth choose a similar line to two years ago but with new some twists added in. Some felt Berrecloth got the raw end of the judging and should have finished no less than second and possibly first. Berrecloth pulled a three and many other big hits on his clean run but only managed third place, being outscored by Atherton's, smooth and fast run. Part of the Claws run was in the canyon where the judges couldn't really see parts of his run which could have affected the scoring.
