Old Pueblo Recap - Photo essay

When the Dust had settled on 24 hour town for the 15th edition of the Old Pueblo race there were ususal smiles all around. People stoked to have ridden and survived, new friends made and memories to last at least until next year. This years edition broke new records. Not the riding kind but from Mother Nature. She poured sunshine and high 80 degree temperatures on riders during the day and warm mid 50 degree weather at night. Instead of the usual bundling for warmth and having to slip from the warm cacoon of your sleeping bag into the cold night air, riders mostly dawned arm warmers and a base layer when they fired up their lights. By day, it was sunscreen and having to give serious consideration to hydration as the days where noticably drier than any I can remember.

On a fast course the armada of riders enjoyed the winter weather treat. This year I noticed a larger variety of rider types on the trail. More older, more younger, less factory racers, more fat bikes, more hard tails and thankfully more women. With not much more to report apart from the infamous "Naked Man" on lap one. Lets simply celebrate all who participated and pay a little more homage to the winners of each category with a photo of at least one rider from each class champion plus some other color captures.

The usual mayhem at the start is great spectator fun and a unique event unto itself.

Getting your run in early and getting your bike early is a huge advantage to a fast and clear first lap.

The Youth were well represented at this years event. Really strong young riders here and at the El Groupo tent

Its not as easy as it looks. This poor guy bonked hard on the climb and walked it to the top. He was very happy when I told him he had reached the top and it was downhill all the way home.

This was at the entrance back into 24 hour town. Welcoming the solo riders to their little slice of RV central. (Note - solo riders NEVER use an RV - they are too tough)

Speaking of sunset - here is my sunset photo for the day. It was that bright I had to tune the camera down to capture it and the nights first campfire.

You get all kinds of bikes and bars at the Old Pueblo. I think she rode to the race on this bike also.
