Englishman rethinks the ubiquitous bike bell and makes it safer and easier to use.
Just when you thought you saw it all, someone has gone and reinvented the bike bell. When I found out about it I rolled my eyes and had to see what fun
I could poke at such a promise. Much to my amazement, the designer, or redesigner I should say, actually did improve the functional usage of the bell. No its not a redesign of the century old concept but a much better application of it.
By rethinking the mounting and size of of the bell, Stefan Buxton managed to make using the bell considerably safer and therefore more likely to be used.
Stefans desire for a better mouse trap came from the inherent danger of taking your thumb completely off the handle bars to find the "dinger" while navigating the very tight and busy streets of England. In case you aren't up on the explosion of bike usage in England, let me tell you, its going off, but I digress.
Designed originally for a commuter bike, the trigger bell works equally well on the trails letting slower riders, hikers etc know that you are coming up on them.
The product is called the "Trigger Bell" for its simple trigger shifting like action and location. The bell is made from real brass for a great sound in a small package.
Buxton is everymans working stiff like most of us and is trying to raise funds to get his bell into full blown production using kickstarter. I think its a great idea and would love to help a brother out. Maybe you would too?, and get yourself one of the innagural bells for doing so.
