Just a week ago, the dirt jump community got together for the third annual "Legacy Jam" fund raising effort to support one of its own that tragically left his family and his riding brothers behind on January 14, 2012. Thomas Troy Hancock had just finished a day of digging in preparation for a Red Bull jump event in Perris California when he fell asleep at the wheel of his car while driving home to his family. Hancock left behind his wife and two young daughters (1 yr & 3 years) at the time.
The event took place in Scottdale Arizona on a private property decked out with multiple jump lines with massive jump spires pointing toward the sky. Some big names came out in support as well as some top up-and-comers. The "Legacy Jam" collected an entry fee at the door, sold shirts, had food and free beer (21 years old+) and held a raffle to help raise money. The party even had a couple damn fine punk/rock bands to entertain. All funds received went to help set up an educational fund for Hancock's daughters.
If you are interested in helping out-even a little, the kids would greatly appreciate it. You can donate to the fund by going to www.hancockbmx.com and following the appropriate links on the page.
The event promises to be even bigger next year and plans to extend the jump line are already in the works. A big thanks goes out to the host Steve Garcia for building a gnarly set of jumps and putting out a big effort to support the Hancock family.
Keep your eyes peeled for more notice of this event for next year. If you "Like" bicycle world tv on our facebook page - http://www.facebook.com/BicycleWorldTV, you will be officially hooked up when it comes back to town.
