Well the weather has finally begun to change. The heat in the southwest has given way to near perfect temps, the rest of country is watching the leaves change, but you still have racing left in your legs. What to do with all those miles? Well fear not, because this is the season for those wishing to get out and show their endurance in some of the longer races of the year.
This weekend no exception with several events for you to get into, but hurry up and get signed up and find a partner or two to make up your team.
Back at the McDowell Mountain Park - host to many a national cross country race - in Fountain Hill Arizona (just outside of Phoenix), the 12 & 24 Hours of Fury hits the trails for another edition. The weather will be stellar and this course is fast with very little climbing but enough roller coaster hills to keep you honest. Add 10,000 in cash prizes spread among all classes from sponsors like Muscle Milk (love that stuff) and Trek and you have a legit race that is a blast. Wanna get in on the action. Go here NOW!
If you like adventure racing and Mexico then the MTB Baja UltraEndurance race leaving from Ensenada Mexico this Saturday for their 100km race is for you. Held in the perfect time of year to be in Baja and easily accessible less than two hours from the Mexican Border - the race is really attracting some of Americas biggest names. This year, I have heard that Carl Decker and several other top riders will be there going for the win.
One of the main things that makes any race successful is when a town gets behind it. And Ensenada loves this race as only the Mexican people do. Great sponsors like Ellsworth bikes and some others will be raffling off frames and more but that isn't the reason to race it. It is challenging. The MTB Baja Ultra Endurance is a 100km, point to point that traverses sidewalks, roads, villages, endless climbs and dizzying descents that will test Mountain Bikers of all levels, from professionals, amateurs and anyone who wants to test their physical and mental capabilities.
The race also has a 65km option for those not ready to eat the whole enchilada (sorry had to do that) - but garaunteed - it won't be a cake walk either.
If you're bummed you can't make this edition, then put it on your calendar for next year.
