This years Crankworx Slopestyle event was an exercise in patience as riders danced around mother natures fickle weather to squeeze in practice, qualifying and the finals. Saturdays comp brought out the best weather of the week with bright blue skies speckled with white thunder head clouds.
A combination of an energy sapping crash by Cam McCaul on his first run breaking his femur and the wind starting to gust , had the riders decide to take a one hour intermission to see if the winds would subside. With the big cork screw drop in and the double fruit bowl feature exposing the riders to such heights, the riders and organizers made a great decision. The break in the action was just what everyone needed as the wind mellowed and time helped revive a good vibe.
The original comp format was for each rider to take two runs and their top score with the top six riders finals making it to the finals where they would get one run to take home the goods. But the wind came back an it was unanimously agreed to award the final results based on the best scores of the first two runs.
Brandon Semenuk was clearly head and shoulders about the field in both of his runs throwing down a best trick winning – Flip Whip and pocketing $8000 for the win and best trick.
