It seems like just yesterday that we were tearing it up on the trails of Whistler, whopping and a hollering while we played on the best playground ever. Yeah, we were players, you know, hob knobbing with the riders, and pushing our own limits until it was time for the big boys to come out and play for keeps. Thats when we put down our bikes picked up our cameras and let the real talent shine.
Mother nature even co-operated a bit after the wettest winter that anyone up there could remember. Sure it showered a bit in the afternoons but really impacted the pump track practice and qualies and some of the Garbonzo downhill. But when it was money time for pretty much every event, the clouds found a way to part, the mountain soaked up the moisture and it was game on.
While there are something like nine seperate events going off over the two weeks of Crankworx (if you count the two seperate best trick comps, ten if you include the impromptu Whip world championships over the massive Crab Apple table tops), the feature event is the Slopestyle and A-line (air dh) picks up.
Since Crankworx does start this Friday - we wanted to get you in the spirit of things and get you fired up to get up to Whistler for some riding and a darned great time. So here is a little reminder of what you will get to see...enjoy.
Jamie Goldman torques it hard between wooden features.
No body went as big as the young phenom Anthony Messers. The only one to hit the 20 ft SRAM tree marker.
Messers went on to take third place in the event and score a legit check for his bravery.
Jumping the Kokanee Beer can while doing a 360, Mike Montgomery is a crowd favorite.
Left or Right - its the riders call which way they want to hit the spine. Every rider went to the right.
Watch your first step. Greg Watts steps into his run off the big Red Bull roll in.
Darren Berrecloth is seriuos about his trade and is the home town favorite. Executing a seat grab.
Rule No. 1 - Never bring sand to the beach. The crowd at Crankworx was off the hook in 2011 thanks in part to some
serious marketing to the Vancouver area. Those Canadians know how to have a good time.
Agazzi is a very popular guy. Somthing tells me she's bluffing.. lets hope its the
beer that tipped us off.
Mike Montgomery practicing his no bike landing.
Cam Zink not looking like his feet are ready for the landing. Lets hope his package was cuz it was seat crusher.
Cam McCaul - no handed flippie - no problem.
What an epic setting to jump into at sunset. 20,000 Kokanee drinking screaming fans. HUGE.
Cam Zink in what appears to be a flip whip into space..nice
Semenuk and Zink share the bubbly on the podium.
A very exciting day on the hill left spectators wiped out. Not too wiped out for the evenings fun though. My bet is she rallied for an appearance later.
Look ma, Im on the big screen, the really big screen.
