New Costa Rican Endurance race circles a Live Volcano

Rincon De La Vieja - add one more world class event to the Costa Rican endurance scene - Foreigners Welcome

Adding to the growth of the mountain bike endurance race scene, Costa Rica Race Promoter Juan Carlos Villa has stepped up to add a second endurance event joining the world famous La Ruta De Los Conquistadores.

Unlike its more famous brother, the Rincon De La Vieja is a one day 100 mile cross country race aimed squarely at becoming a UCI points scoring endurance event. The Rincon has many unique advantages over La Ruta. The foremost being that it is a one day race. This makes logistics a lot easier for all riders but for foreign riders especially. It also gives riders a chance to see a bit of the beautiful country side while they are down there.

The Rincon is also the only race in the works that circumnavigates a live Volcano as it races through the mystical and sacred ground of the ancient Curubande Tribe. The Rincon is a completely different course far north of the route that La Ruta uses.

With approximately 11,000 ft of climbing over the 100 mile course, the Rincon can be ridden by fit riders without having to be super human. If you want to be competitive on the other hand, super human is an advantage as last years winner averaged nearly 15 miles per hour! What you will see is a whole lot of beautiful and varied terrain as well as 5 different climates. Volcanoes often produce crazy weather.

Spots are still available for the race for foreign riders wishing to compete and the race website has done an excellent job of answering most questions about the event.
