This weekend, the Mountain Bike Association of Arizona (MBAA) is hosting its first ever multi-stage enduro race on the trails in the heart of Prescott. The decision to host an enduro is part of the MBAA's continued effort to grow the sport of mountain biking here in the state. The MBAA has done such a great job of growing a new wave of riders with the help of the NICA series that hosting an enduro event is just the next logical step.
Arizona has a large amount of gravity riders that really have no place to race without leaving the state. If this enduro race goes well, it could lead to the MBAA putting on a state series of maybe 3-4 races a year. The great thing about this race is that it is easy to get to for both racers and spectators since it is being held in the middle of Prescott.
While some enduro courses are nearly as challenging as downhill tracks, this event will be on the tamer side. This course should favor high speed cornering and fitness if our recon is accurate. A good 4" travel bike will be sufficient for this race.
If you want to see more Enduro racing in the state of Arizona, you are encouraged to get out there this weekend. Sign ups are here. Also, they need some volunteers so bring a friend, significant other or your kids and have them help out.
The MBAA as done a great job of not letting the entire course out of the bag just yet so it will be pretty new to most racers. Of course locals will have an advantage but those are the breaks!.
