Arizona MTB Finals set for Flagstaff, June 13th.

June 10th, 2010 2:34pm

One of the best seasons in Arizona mountain biking history is about to come to a close. The eighth and final round of the MBAA state series will be held in Flagstaff on June 13, 2009. Overall series class winners will be crowded and schwag will be flying, but not until racers flog themselves on an epic course which will take the racers over the top of Mt. Elden (9000+ ft). and back. The race - Sponsored by Absolute Bikes in Flagstaff - will feature plenty of climbing in the first half of the 24 mile circuit and finish on one of the states most revered single tracks - Schultz Creek trail. The event is open to anyone who would like to race and has the proper equipment. This is the first season in years where the entire state was covered and thanks to a really dedicated board and several key voluteers the season featured three new courses.

As a seasoned racer I was truly impressed with the diversity of the race courses and overall running of the events. Even a last minute venue change and a sabatour in the 7th race couldn't ruin the spirits of the event thanks again to the local bike shop Absolute Bikes, who managed to plot out a new course in a matter of days when it was discovered the previous location was double booked.

The MBAA series offers competitive racing for all skill levels from absolute beginners to professional as well as mens ,womens and children. The classes are also broken down by age groups so you are always racing with your peers.

The 2009 season saw many faces which bodes well for the sport and its future. The seasons success reflects well the amount of time that the previous and current board members have put into keeping mountain biking alive in Arizona. If you can come out to the race, be sure to thank the volunteers, the starters, timers, board president, board members sponsors and anyone else lending a hand to make this possible for you to enjoy.
