Here is a headline you dont hear every day....American Bike Manufacturer launches Ebike and sells out. Actually pre-sold out...
Detroit Bikes, a name you dont hear everyday and probably never heard of, brought back the dream of mass production bike manufacturing here in the good ol USA some 10 years ago.
During that time, they have steadily continued to grow in the amount of bikes they have produced. Selling out whatever they could make. Even designing and building an Ebike under the radar as other brands launched their versions with huge marketing campaigns and pro riders showing how good these bikes could be. But Detroit doesnt care about winning world cup downhill races or multi-day stage road races because they are in it for the long haul. They make practical bikes for everyday people. Detroit bikes wanted to bring profitable manufacturing and desired bikes back to the United States. And, they have done it.
Detroit Bikes is making their Ebike offering available for $900 and is selling out everything they can produce. While surely the covid situation has helped them in this endeavor, the company has been growing quite well for some time. Their Ebike - they call the Sparrow, is just proof that Detroit Bikes is on the pulse and offering a very well priced bike that actually has some great commuter design and appeal. They also happen to be employing Americans. Keeping money, in this country. Now I dont want to get all soap box on you all, but these guys are checking a lot of boxes for me.
The bike is a solid utilitarian offering that absolutely kills it on price. This is affordable transportation. Since this isn't a bike review, we won't cover that, but you can find them at http://detroitbikes.com
More importantly, if you are in a the market for a sweet ride to get around town on or get some exercise these guys should be on your list to check out.
