The Whiskey 50 / 25 mountain bike race made its way back to Prescott on the heals of the Sea Otter Classic. All the big names and teams made the relatively short drive to Prescott to compete for some serious cash. With all the scofflaw about how the the UCI's dumb ass rules that have thankfully been put on hold for another year till they can figure out to to screw the independent race promoter - The Whiskey 50 managed to go off without a hitch and grow their prize purse to $40,000 dollars - making it one of the countries richest races on the MTB circuit. And when prize purses start getting big, big names start showing up. Yeah the event is cool, but its the prize money that gets the racers and the town of Prescott gets patrons, lots of patrons. A win-win for sure.
Defending Champion Geoff Kabush returned to the 2013 Whiskey 50 in fine form. Coming off wins at the Sea Otter Classic, Mr. Kabush is super strong so early on in the season and continued his winning ways to take out the rich payday in a very competitive field. Leslie Paterson took away the equally big check on the women side of the table besting Katerina Nash by a solid two minutes.

Patterson, Nash and Woodruff - 2-1-3 finishers in Friday nights warm up Crit.
Georgia Gould may not be in top form but she is my favorite racer with a
great attitude about racing. Still a fourth place isn't bad especially if you're having more fun than everyone else.
Team Giant's Kelly Emmett with another strong showing in both the crit and 50 miler. On the box and in the money both days.
Now on to Defend her Super D/ Enduro Crown.
Arizona's own Chloe Woodruff is in great form and put CrankBros on the Box.
The Pro mens race got a bit tight in turn one - lap one - everyone came out without a scratch - here Mimmo Futia of Team Swiss America throws his massive guns around
fighting to stay upright. The big guns worked and no one got hurt.
Sid Taberly (Kenda - BH) and Geoff Kabush (left) ramping it up after the neutral lap start
Toward the end of the race riders start getting the lay of the land. Here Todd Wells checks
to see if there is any help or an attack coming from his long time rivals Kabush as the head up the hill.
TJ Woodruff is one of Arizona's fast men. He made it through most of the crit race before being
pulled and then threw in an excellent result in the 50 miler to make some bank.
Whiskey crit winner Max Plaxton outsprinted Kabush for the win giving Sho-air the top step of the podium
Fernando Riveros Paez (20) from Rotor Racing catches the flash just right to make it look as though he is stalking Kabush.
Riveros Paez went on to finish14th in the crit but 5th and in the money in the 50 miler.
JHK and Adam Craig sported the more casual baggies. Kudos for that - It got you a picture on our site!
AMATEUR HOUR - Whiskey 50 Proof and 25 Proof
Pretty much tells you the story
The picture doesn't tell the whole story - there were tons of people.
This is the start of the 50 miler- with 800 who paid their entry plus a $9 processing fee - Really??
What is this, ticket master?
It aint the Whiskey without the Wild West.
Words escape me.
First man to the turn. Hey its a long race and chances are he didn't win.
The river of riders flowed for what seemed like 10 minutes or more..
As far as the eye could see under the watchful eye of Whiskey Row
Last but not least - George from the Slippery Pig Bike Shop. Moots frame, Carbon XO Cranks,
Custom bars and running shoes -keeping it real. George is one of the few great bike mechanics in
Phoenix. He is my go to guy for fork work.
